What Is NeuroStar Advanced Therapy?

TMS stands for transcranial magnetic stimulation. NeuroStar TMS therapy involves a course of 36 treatments that are typically administered five times per week over the course of seven to eight weeks. Each session lasts about 20 minutes and is typically scheduled in a 30 minute appointment.

The treatment device contains a metal coil that generates rapidly alternating magnetic fields, gently stimulating specific areas of your brain and triggering changes that improve your symptoms. NeuroStar uses a patented technology called Contact Sensing to ensure the exact dosage for each electromagnetic pulse.

NeuroStar Advanced TMS Therapy

What is it?

NeuroStar TMS is a safe, effective, non-drug depression treatment that uses focused magnetic pulses, similar in strength to an MRI, to revitalize connections in an area of the brain involved in regulating your mood. When these connections are reactivated, many people experience measurable relief from their symptoms.

Does it hurt?

While there may be some minor discomfort at the treatment site , it generally subsides within the first week of treatment. There is no sedation, or impact on your alertness. You can read, watch TV, or talk with your TMS technician during your session, and you can drive home immediately after treatment.

Does it work?

In a study examining real-world outcomes—reflecting the experiences of actual NeuroStar TMS patients—83% of individuals who completed the full course of treatment reported a noticeable improvement in their depression symptoms. Remarkably, 62% achieved full remission, meaning their symptoms resolved to the point that they no longer met the criteria for depression.

Does insurance cover it?

Most commercial and government insurance plans cover NeuroStar TMS, but every plan is a little different. Even with coverage, you may still have some out-of-pocket costs like copays, deductibles, or coinsurance. Our team is here to help you understand your benefits and explore private pay or financing options if that’s a better fit for you.
